Vans Old Skool Sizing: Find Your Fit
Official size guidance meets Perfitt’s measured shoe data.

Quick answer
Start with your usual size, checked against Vans’ own size chart. Vans’ Old Skool product guide says most designs fit true to size. Treat that as a starting point, then check forefoot pressure, instep comfort and heel hold with the socks you plan to wear.
Perfitt’s historical Old Skool measurements add a useful second perspective: the number on the label is not the same as the space measured inside the shoe. They do not establish a universal half-size adjustment.
This guide covers the classic Old Skool. Skate, Premium, platform and wide versions should be checked separately.

The snapshot describes one archived measurement batch, not a wear-test score or a specification for every pair sold today. The records identify VN-0D3H, while the current Black/White product uses VN000D3HY28; the historical batch does not identify the full color-specific SKU.
What the measurements tell us
In the archived batch, the shoe labeled 250 mm measured 252 mm internally; the 255 mm sample measured 258 mm. At 265 mm, the recorded internal length was 260 mm. That uneven pattern is a reason to avoid turning these records into a “subtract 5 mm” shopping rule.
Inner width also varies by sample. A millimeter measurement alone does not tell us how a particular foot will feel once the upper, lacing and socks are involved. No matched wearer outcomes, instep measurements or validated 1–5 fit ratings are available for this batch.
Inside the shoe: Perfitt’s measurements
The complete 13-record batch below preserves the source values. All dimensions are in millimeters. “Label” is the source’s KR/mm size field; it is not a measured foot length.

Do not subtract your foot length from these figures to calculate toe clearance: the source does not document enough measurement-method detail to support that calculation.
Vans size conversion
Use the current official chart to translate a size you have selected. Converting the label does not decide the fit. This adult-size excerpt reproduces Vans’ US unisex chart; JP is the brand’s size label, not Perfitt’s measured internal length.
US men | US women | UK | EU | JP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
6.5 | 8 | 5.5 | 38.5 | 24.5 |
7 | 8.5 | 6 | 39 | 25 |
7.5 | 9 | 6.5 | 40 | 25.5 |
8 | 9.5 | 7 | 40.5 | 26 |
8.5 | 10 | 7.5 | 41 | 26.5 |
9 | 10.5 | 8 | 42 | 27 |
9.5 | 11 | 8.5 | 42.5 | 27.5 |
10 | 11.5 | 9 | 43 | 28 |
For example, US men’s 9 corresponds to US women’s 10.5, UK 8, EU 42 and JP 27 in this chart. Confirm the selected size system on the product page before ordering.

Measure before you compare
Vans advises measuring from heel to longest toe on a flat surface with the heel against a straight edge. As a practical try-on step, measure both feet and use the larger measurement when consulting the brand’s guide. Wear your usual socks when checking the fit.
Choose for your foot, not just the label
These are practical fit checks, not measured Perfitt size adjustments.
Average width, everyday fit
Begin with the size suggested by Vans’ chart and the brand’s true-to-size guidance. Lace both shoes, stand up and walk indoors. Your toes should not be pressed into the front, and the heel should stay secure without overtightening the laces.
Wide forefoot or a higher instep
Check pressure across the ball of the foot and under the laces. Loosen the lacing to test whether the issue is adjustment or overall space. Compare a wide option or an adjacent size if needed, but reject extra length that causes heel movement. This batch cannot establish a specific size increase for wide or high-volume feet.
Narrow feet or a closer fit
Check heel hold before sizing down. If your usual size feels loose, compare the next smaller available size only if your toes remain comfortable while walking. A closer fit should not require curled toes or persistent side pressure.
Roomier fit or thicker socks
Try the shoes with those socks from the start. Compare adjacent sizes if necessary and choose the pair that balances forefoot room with heel security. Do not assume that break-in will fix a shoe that is too short.
Frequently asked questions
Do Vans Old Skool run big or small?
Vans’ model guide describes most Old Skool designs as true to size. Perfitt’s archived measurements do not support a single size-up or size-down rule for everyone.
Should I go half a size down?
Not automatically. Start with the official chart, then compare a smaller size only if the first pair is loose and the smaller pair still leaves comfortable toe space.
Are the men’s and women’s numbers interchangeable?
They use different labels. In the adult US chart excerpt above, the women’s number is 1.5 higher than the men’s number. Use the exact product’s size selector.
Does JP 27 mean 270 mm of room inside the shoe?
No. JP 27 is a size label. It is not a promise about measured interior space, and it should not be substituted for Perfitt’s internal-length field.
Has Perfitt measured the current Black/White release?
This article uses historical Old Skool family measurements, recorded under VN-0D3H in 2021. It does not claim that the current VN000D3HY28 production has been remeasured or that its fit is unchanged.
Is Old Skool still available from Vans?
The official US Black/White page was active with a price, size selector and Add to Cart control when checked on November 1, 2026. Availability depends on the size and location selected.
